BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Set an intention
-
What aspects of your zentangle practice are you interested in exploring? It could involve finding peace in your thoughts, working through your feelings, or just living in the moment.
-
Keep this intention in your mind as you start to draw.
PREPARATIONS
Find your creative zone
-
Find a quiet space: Minimise distractions and create a safe environment for introspection.
-
Take a few long deep breathes: Calm your mind and ground your emotions.
STEP 1
Choose a tangle
-
There are numerous zentangle patterns referred to as "tangles." There are plenty of free tangle resources available online or in zentangle books.
-
Choose a tangle that speaks to you, or explore until you discover one that brings a sense of tranquilly or captivates your interest.
STEP 2
Draw repetitively
-
Gently sketch your preferred tangle on your zentangle tile.
-
Pay attention to the sensation of the pen gliding across the paper and the rhythm of your breath.
-
Release any thoughts or concerns that come up, and just focus on being in the present moment.
-
Keep on sketching the intricate design, covering the entire tile with the recurring pattern.
STEP 3
Shade (optional)
-
Using a light touch with your pencil, add shading to your zentangle for depth and dimension.
-
Consider where shadows might fall based on your chosen tangle pattern.
STEP 4
Observe your emotions
-
Take a moment to look at your finished zentangle.
-
Notice any emotions that may have surfaced while you were drawing.
-
Don't judge or analyze them, simply acknowledge their presence.
